I am late to the party when it comes to Lisa Kleypas having read a few of her novels here and there. In the back of my mind I always wish to see the initial manuscript to see what may have been left out during the editing process and if there had been something there I could have connected with more. All the elements were there but I feel something was lost somewhere along the lines. I am about to admit to what I know will be an unpopular opinion but I just could not connect with this story as much as I would have liked. Winterborne, the second in this series featuring Helen and Rhys as the lead characters. I will definitely be purchasing and reading Marrying Mr. And when Helen and Rhys were given the opportunity to shine and set up their story for the second book, I was instantly drawn in and hoped for more of them. I was instantly drawn to West and his robust country transformation after shedding his rakish form. I loved the supporting characters greatly. But for some reason I just could not connect with her. As the story unfolds I can see why Kathleen behaves the way she does as we find out more about her relationship with her deceased husband and her life growing up. We also have the recently widowed Lady Kathleen Trenear who is fiercely protective of the estate and individuals who call it home. Having never wanted the “power” and responsibility that comes with the title, he struggles to gain his footing and believe he is more than the person he believes himself to be. Devon finds himself the new Earl after the death of a highly disliked cousin. The stepback in my copy really solidified my fictional infatuation.

Maybe it is just me dear readers but I would definitely volunteer as tribute for the likes of the new Lord Trenear, Devon Ravenel. “‘The devil knows why my life should be ruined,’ Devon Ravenel said grimly, ‘all because a cousin I never lived fell from a horse.'” Tropes Include:Įnemies to lovers, widow, will/inheritance My Thoughts: As Kathleen finds herself yielding to his skillfully erotic seduction, only one question remains:Ĭan she keep from surrendering her heart to the most dangerous man she’s ever known? Opening Line: But the fiery attraction between them is impossible to deny-and from the first moment Devon holds her in his arms, he vows to do whatever it takes to possess her. Kathleen knows better than to trust a ruthless scoundrel like Devon. His estate is saddled with debt, and the late earl’s three innocent sisters are still occupying the house… along with Kathleen, Lady Trenear, a beautiful young widow whose sharp wit and determination are a match for Devon’s own. But his powerful new rank in society comes with unwanted responsibilities… and more than a few surprises. Devon Ravenel, London’s most wickedly charming rake, has just inherited an earldom.
